Folks -
John Baugartner and I did a quick trip to Maple River SGA this morning. Did
the area between Blair Rd bridge and Wilson Rd bridge. We walked in on the
east dike of D Unit and the east dike of C Unit. It was sunny, but cold when the
wind picked up.
Unit D has some shallow open water and it seems to be an evening roost. Small
groups of ducks are in the shallow areas of the river. Red-wings are all over
on various territories - marshes, ditches, and a few in fields. No big
blackbird groups. Geese were scattered all over the place on potential nesting
sites, but several big flocks, probably migrating further north still, were hanging
out while we were there.
No Golden Eagle, but we were just on the edge of where it fas been seen.
