Greetings,

Below is an interesting note from Rich Keith in Kalamazoo that I thought was
worth sharing. Some amazing redpoll numbers here! (Our Love Creek winter
flock seems to have moved on - to Rich's no doubt..)

Hi Kip,

I saw a post about Common Redpolls (CORE) on the BBC list tonight. I
hesitate to post Kazoo birds but thought I would give you an update and you
can post if you want.

Today we banded 163 new CORE. We also had 324 recaptures of CORE. Last
Friday we banded 153 new and recapped 325. Of the 325 recaps 166 different
CORE were represented.

Since Dec. 14 we have banded 1646 CORE. We have had about 3,000 recaptures
of the same birds. I estimate an average daily population of 500 and peaks
over 1,000. I am on my 9th 50 pound bag of Nyjer seed. Some days It takes
over 6 pounds to fill the feeders. I don't know how much longer this can go
on but it is fun while it lasts.

Rich
