Prothonotary WarblerS, Barred Owls

Journeyed into the SGA east of Ionia Sunday morning and saw a Barred Owl chick peeking out from it nest.

Within earshot of that spot, I had a Prothonotary Warbler singing. I have had them visible across a wooded lake back in the SGA, but you have to walk about 200 feet to get to the lake to see them. But this one was actually along the dirt road in front of that lake.

Had a second Prothonotary on the bridge crossing the Ionia Rivertrail. He hangs out by the West end of the bridge, and at one point, he flew out and landed on the bridge rail, affording me a shot I was not quick enough on the draw to snap last year at my first Prothonotary sighting. Rarely do I ever get that kind of second chance. But this was nice.

Good birding,

P.S. Consistent with the season, the mosquitoes are getting pretty thick.
