Folks -
Took a mid-day break from work yesterday, Tuesday, and checked out several
places at Rose Lake for butterflies and dragonflies.
Was somewhat surprised to hear these 3 species singing near mid-day at this
time of year: at least 3 different towhees, a Chestnut-sided Warbler, and a
Mourning Warbler. The two warblers were along the path going north out of the
Burke Lake parking spot and the latter is a fairly rare summer record for the
area.
Best butterfly was a Baltimore nectaring on Queen-Anne's-Lace, a lovely
little tableau.
Best dragonfly was a Banded Pennant perched on Scrubby Cinquefoil.
Best mammal was a D.O.R. (unfortunately) Zapus hudsonicus.
It was warm out, but it sure smelled good! - D Mc -
