Birders,
There were two Black Swans on the Huron River next to Furstenburg Park, about 300 yards upstream from Gallup Park in Ann Arbor. These are escapees from a zoo, aviary, or park, and native to Australia. At 4:30pm, they were loafing on the ice with a couple of Mute Swans and a few Canada Geese. I saw no leg bands, but the light was poor and I was using a cruddy pair of binoculars.
These are the first I've seen on the loose in Washtenaw County. Not countable by ABA standards, natch, but does anyone know the status of feral Black Swans in Michigan; i.e., numbers and distribution? Probably a good idea to keep track of exotics that may start breeding up a storm.
