Spend your extra day this leap year doing something in nature! Shiawassee
National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a “Family Night Hike” on Friday,
February 29, 2008. Hikers should meet at 6:30 p.m. at the Green Point
Environmental Learning Center, 3010 Maple Street in Saginaw. Explore the
sights, sounds and smells of the night as you hike in a guided group along
about one mile of Green Point’s trails. This hike is geared for families
and will feature owl calling with refuge volunteer Steve Gasser. Our
hiking trails are not plowed so be prepared to walk through deep snow! Be
sure to dress in layers and bring a flashlight. Hot chocolate will be
available after the hike. In the event of severe winter weather, the
“Family Night Hike” will be cancelled.

For further information about the Family Night Hike and other programs on
the refuge, please visit our website at www.fws.gov/midwest/shiawassee or
