Willet, Bear Lake

I had the good fortune of finally seeing my curse bird, Willet, in Manistee County on Saturday evening at Bear Lake.
I was out walking the dog and actually thinking at the time what a lousy year this has been for shorebirds when I notice a smaller bird sitting on a swim platform in the lake next to a herring gull. I continued to walk for a while thinking how I wish I could get to Peru and see some good birds and then thought, wait I better check that out.
Much to my delight it was a Willet and it sat there and called several times. I was able to point it out to the owner of the property who took interest in it and was surprised that a bird that nests in Montana could end up resting on his swim platform (and fortuantely not make a mess on it while we were scoping it).
