Piping plovers, Benzie Co.

Yesterday I spent part of the afternoon with relatives and about 500 other vacationers at the Platte River Mouth beach in the Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore in Benzie County.  There is a protected area there with nesting Piping Plovers and I was able to see 14 birds foraging in the ponds at the point.  I was suprised at the number of birds and checked with a ranger there that said there were three successfull nests.

Also present: Solitary Sandpiper, Spotten Sandpiper, Sanderling, Semipalmated Sandpiper, Least Sandpiper and Semipalmated Plover.
