I spent this past week backpacking on North Manitou Island, Leelanau
County with my wife Emily. I saw a couple good birds.
Highlights:
1 juv PARASITIC/POMARINE JAEGER, seen from boat 3 miles offshore of
Leland on 9/8
1 PRAIRIE WARBLER, North Manitou Island dock area on 9/11
Other cool things:
18 species of warblers (migrant passerines were abundant on the island)
Estimated 60 Red-breasted Nuthatches
1 Whip-poor-will singing on 9/8
1 Olive-sided Flycatcher
1 Sedge Wren
11 Red-necked Grebes flying by the North Manitou Island dock, 9/12
3 White-winged scoters seen from boat in Lake Mich offshore waters, 9/12
87 bird species were observed in total.
Interestingly, Tufted Titmice appeared to be absent on the island.
