Birders-
During today's 30mph onshore winds on Lake Michigan, 11 Sept, I took an hour
after work to check for jaegers and other goodies from the Grand Haven pier,
Ottawa Co. I was rewarded with a group of 3 jaeger spp about 1 mile out,
and a *possible* group of 4-5 that were 2+ miles out (less certain of ID).
I have posted a quick video clip of the former at my blog:

It appears that onshore winds over 20 mph are probably necessary to bring
these birds close enough to shore to have a chance to see them well, at
least for the majority of individuals. Even then, it's rare to get them
close enough for a definitive ID.
Good Birding,
Caleb Putnam
