Mich-Chatters:
Sorry for the lateness of this, but I just got back to my computer.
On Friday morning (Oct. 12, '07) on our way from Muskegon to Ohio, my
wife and I traveled a few roads in the Haehnle Sanctuary area in
northeast Jackson County. Having never been there before, we enjoyed a
stroke of Beginner's Luck near Munith at 11:45 when we spotted the
Whooping Crane that's been reported over there recently. I've posted a
snapshot on the "Recent Sightings" page at the Muskegon County Nature
Club website: http://users.tm.net/mcnc
Two years ago two Whoopers spent an evening in Muskegon County, and two
and three years ago others spent the summer near the Walkinshaw
Sanctuary in Oceana County. We're curious if Friday's bird might be one
of those. Somewhere I have the leg band combinations for those birds,
and I probably can find them at the Whooping Crane websites if I try,
but first I'll ask you folks:
The color-scheme on Friday's bird is:
Left Leg = White over Red over Green.
Right Leg = Green over White.
Does anyone know the history of this bird? Thanks for any replies!
