Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a guided birding auto tour
on Friday, October 12, 2007, beginning at 5:00 p.m. All participants
should meet at the refuge headquarters located at 6975 Mower Road (on the
corner of Curtis and Mower Roads) to carpool together into the refuge.
Refuge volunteer Steve Gasser will be leading the tour.
Many birds have been passing through the refuge despite the unusually warm
fall on their way down south. Duck and geese numbers have been low, but a
variety of shorebirds have been using parts of the refuge. Participants
will have many opportunities to see not only birds, but a variety of other
wildlife, too. Bring binoculars and a bird field guide and dress for the
weather. In the event of rain or soft road conditions associated with
rain, this tour will be cancelled.
