Angela -
Up here in the Lansing area we sometimes find Y-b Sapsucker on the Christmas
Bird Counts - often at feeders. We have had them stay through the winter
several times. I've never never been lucky enough to have one visit my feeders,
but I usually see at least one in our yard during migration.
They routinely winter in the SW part of the state and probably in other
southern counties as well. Again, the depend on feeders - at least until the sap
starts running again.
We have had them breed in our area once or twice as well. They favor stands
of aspen, which becomes uncommon here in the south of Michigan.
I'm curious to know if your bird will stay at your feeder.
Take care. - Doug McWhirter
