Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge - May 1

A few noteworthy species found along the Ferguson Bayou Nature Trail at
Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge on May 1 included:

yellow warbler
blue-gray gnatcatcher
pileated woodpecker
American bittern
Caspian tern
pied-billed grebe
blue-winged teal
ruddy duck
bald eagle (subadult)
white-throated sparrow
savannah sparrow

Noteworthy herp species include several singing American toads as well as a
few western chorus frogs and a common gray treefrog.

Also, a warbling vireo was singing from the trees around the refuge
headquarters.
