Sunday, 06/24/07 we did another of our Fed. USGS BBS routes. This one starts down in the center of Macomb countys now "condo prairies" area near Waldenburg and ends up in St. Clair county in the Allenton/Berville area.
Interestingly less then 1 mile out from this urban, condo, subdivision, sprawl --in the semi-suburban farm area we immediately came upon such unexpected noteworthy species as :
Great Blue Heron
WOOD THRUSH
Common Yellowthroats
Hairy Woodpecker
N. Flicker
Savannah Sparrows
E. Bluebirds
Grey Catbirds
House Wrens
WILD TURKEYS
Warbling Vireo
Indigo Buntings
Eastern Kingbirds
Ring -necked Pheasants
Red-tail Hawk
Further up the line we were surprised and treated to find 2 WILLOW FLYCATCHERS & a GREAT CRESTED FLYCATCHER! Not bad for central Macomb county!
After finishing this route up in St. Clair county we decided to do some Atlasing in nearby Riley Twp. which needed work. By then it was late AM and really hot but we were delighted to come across a pair--male & female NORTHERN HARRIERS foraging over a rye field.!
Aways down this same road we came upon a calling BOB-WHITE QUAIL!
