Steve Santner and I did some birding in Newaygo and Mecosta counties today.
Highlights (all in southern Mecosta County) were:

Grasshopper Sparrow: 2 on the north side of 3 Mile Road west of 130th Avenue

Red-headed Woodpecker: 1 on Monroe Road west of Brady Avenue

Dickcissel: 2 on 130th Avenue between 5 and 6 Mile Roads. While driving by a
house at 5282 130th, we
heard a Dickcissel singing. Skeptical that a Dickcissel would be
singing from someone's front
yard, we stopped to investigate. We saw one Dickcissel fly from the
yard across the road and into
a field; and we then observed a second Dickcissel singing from and
hopping around in a large tree
in the front yard. A very odd sight.

Virginia Rail: We stopped in mid-afternoon at a tiny marsh on the south side
of Buchanan Road just
west of 130th Avenue, and heard a Virginia Rail calling.

We also had a Henslow's Sparrow in southeastern Newaygo County, but I'm
embarrassed to admit we neglected to note the location.
