I did some county birding today in Montcalm and Clinton Counties. I had 75
species in the morning in-between cloudbursts in Montcalm County before the
rain finally drove me away. The highlight was a singing Cerulean Warbler
southeast of Greenville in extreme southern Montcalm County. I heard it from a
bridge on Grow Road (AKA 585 in DeLorme) about 2/3 mile north of South County
Line Road.
I found a Dickcissel singing in the rain in Clinton County in a field on the
south side of Taft Road between Wacousta Road and Forest Hill Road.
Unexpected (at least to me) was an active Great Blue Heron rookery on a
county-owned wetland in Montcalm County on Vickeryville Road between Cole Road
and Fenwick Road. Just northwest of that area, south of Pickerel Lake, I had an
Alder and a Willow Flycatcher singing from the same field.
