All,

The Lake Huron shoreline at Santiago Rd just west of Au Gres continues to be
a great shorebirding spot in Arenac Co. Robert Epstein and I had 13 spp there
on Saturday afternoon. The best were Baird's at both the pond on the left
and out at the shoreline. Also at least 5 SB Dowitchers, at least one Stilt
Sandpiper, well over a hundred Yellowlegs, a Snipe, a flying Solitary and a few
Sanderlings.

Take Santiago Road south off US-23 just as you're coming into Au Gres from
the west. Go until the road ends and park in the small lot on the left. Take
the boardwalk towards Lake Huron. Some of the birds in the pond on the left
were identifiable from the boardwalk but to really see them and especially the
birds on the Huron shore you'll need to walk out to the edge of the
vegetation. The water level is very low but the extensive shore is still quite muddy --
 including some of the walk.

good birding,

Scott Jennex
Ferndale
