Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is hosting a “Short-eared Owl Hike” on
Saturday, February 3, 2007. Hikers should meet at 5:00 p.m. at the
Ferguson Bayou Trail parking lot, at the west end of Curtis Road, off of
Highway M-13, south of Saginaw. Refuge volunteer Steve Gasser will lead
hikers on a sunset hike in search of the endangered, short-eared owls that
winter at the refuge. The owls are most active around sunset as they look
for food. Dress for the weather and bring binoculars and a flashlight. Be
prepared to walk about 5 miles on snow/ice covered trails.
