Yesterday While at the DNR access at the end of South
River
Road, I spotted 4 Tundra Swans off the point at the
edge of the rafts of divers. One was ashy grey,
presumably a juvenile, and the other 3 were adults. I
could see, even from a distance, the black bill and
more upright posture. They flew off in the direction
of Strawberry Island/St. Clair flats. Also admist the
usual suspect diving ducks I had a fair number
(approx. 15-20) of Ruddy Ducks. I got a very good view
of a Bufflehead, which could not have been much more
than 30 feet from the rocks. I spotted two Song
Sparrows in the scrub on the point. I did not locate
the Bald Eagles or the Glaucous Gull refered to in
MichListers.

At Metro I spotted the Buntings on the open fields up
from the beach towards the beginning of Huron Point. I
scanned the jammed up ice out from the beach for the
Snowy Owl, but did not find it.
