Best location for July in UP Michigan?

Dear Birders,
My family and I are planning a visit to Michigan in mid July. We are looking
for a really good birding spot in which to spend an entire day. Our trip is
more family- and relative-oriented, so this will be my best opportunity to
get some good birding done. Since we will be visiting the Upper Peninsula
(although probably just the eastern part), I am thinking that this will be
the best place to spend The day. We will be coming from Pennsylvania, so I
think the UP may hold the greatest chance of getting us some species that
are hard (or practically impossible) to find in PA.
I don't necessarily have any target birds, but I would like to be able to
get some of the northern birds like Crossbills, Evening Grosbeak,
Black-backed Woodpecker, Sharp-tailed Grouse, or Spruce Grouse. I have only
been birding in the States for a month and a half, so there are a lot of
birds I have not seen yet. I don't really know what is available in July,
but I'm just throwing these names out to give an idea of the kind of birds
I'm looking for. Please advise as to some good locations (state parks,
wildlife refuges, etc) in the eastern UP where I can get some good birds
just in a single day, and also give me an idea of what birds I may see
there.
Thanks,
Christopher Colby
