Folks -

I sent this message out via my gmail address and totally forgot I would not
register as a member using that address. Sorry if this ends up as a duplicate
e-mail.

--------------------

Starting on the New Year, I'd like to keep track of the birds seen during
2008 in the counties of Ingham, Eaton, and Clinton and in theMaple River SGA.  We
did this for the Capital Count Area during the mid-70's and it might be fun
to try it using more modern means.

I'd like to do this for each of the counties and Maple River SGA, noting
dates, sites and observer(s).  I'd also like to collect breeding data, although
that was done for the BBA during the last several years. Maximum counts would
also be interesting.

For resident species, the final entry for the year might look like this:

Blue Jay
Ingham - 01 Jan in Holt, Jeff Pavlik;  nest building seen 17 May at
Fenner, Clara Bratton
Eaton - 01 Jan near Dimondale, Doug McWhirter
Clinton - 01 Jan near Grand Ledge, John Baumgartner; nest found 04 Jun,
same
Maple River - 01 Jan in Clinton Co, Karl Ott and PatDeventer;  46 recorded
in the SGA on 13 Oct, Ryan Dziedzic.

For winter visitors we would be looking for last spring dates and first fall
dates.

For breeding birds it would be first and last dates for the year.

For through migrants it would be first and last dates of the season.

The information for rarities would be summarized.

Observers and interested parties can e-mail me with information or
anexpression of their interest and I will respond with a group e-mail tobe updated as
often as seems feasible.

If you have questions, please let me know.

Good birding in 2008 !

Doug McWhirter
