Warblers are wonderful birds to watch, but when they’re not wearing their
breeding plumage, it can be quite confusing to tell the difference between
some of them. That’s why Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge along with the
Saginaw Valley Audubon Society are sponsoring a Confusing Fall Warbler Walk
on Monday, September 3, 2007, at the Ferguson Bayou Trail on Curtis Road.
Bird enthusiasts should meet in the parking lot which is located at the
west end of Curtis/Bishop Roads, south of Saginaw off of highway M-13 at
8:00 a.m. Refuge volunteers and Audubon members Carolyn Szaroletta and
Larry Abraham will guide you on a 4- to 5-mile hike along the Ferguson
Bayou Trail. You will hike to the Grefe Tower, while looking for all of the
confusing warblers that are migrating through the refuge. Ferguson Bayou
Trail is a National Recreation Trail and offers many opportunities to see
not only birds, but a variety of other wildlife, too.
The Confusing Fall Warbler Walk is geared towards intermediate birders, but
everyone is welcome to attend. Bring binoculars, water and a bird field
guide and wear weather appropriate clothing and
shoes. In the event of rain, this walk will be cancelled.
