Peregrine Falcon, Ingham Co. - Sunday, August 19

There has been a resident pair of peregrines in Lansing for the last
several years.
They haven't been very successful at producing young, however.

On the other hand, there was a successful nest on the MSU stadium
during its
renovation/remodeling (this was a different pair of birds) that was not
detected
until the young birds were either ready or very nearly ready to leave
the nest.
The area the birds had been using was enclosed as part of the building
project,
and the birds do not appear to have nested on the stadium again. There
continue
to be spordic reports of peregrines around the MSU campus (less than a
half dozen
a year), but no nest site has ever been found. If you do see peregrines
in or
around the MSU campus (or nearby in East Lansing), we would certainly
be
interested.

Mich-chatters,

My wife and I were quite surprised at about 11:00 this morning to see a
Peregrine Falcon while driving south of the MSU Experimental Agriculture
area along Okemos Rd (between Holt & Lamb Roads?) to see a Peregrine
Falcon. It crossed the road just ahead of us, heading east while being
harrassed by an American Kestrel and it then disturbed several dozen
Crows when it reached a distant woodlot.

I only managed a distant view with binoculars so I couldn't tell if it
was an adult or not. Are Peregrines breeding in downtown Lansing? It was
odd to encounter one in mid-August in southern Michigan farmlands.
