Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge - The Big Sit!

Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge is officially registered to participate
in "birding's most sedentary event" - The Big Sit! on October 14. The
object is to find as many bird species as we can during the 24hr calendar
day from within a 17-foot diameter circle. Our site will be Grefe Tower
which is along our Ferguson Bayou Trail. This site is adjacent to woods
and overlooks marsh, open water, grasslands, and croplands. Hopefully,
we'll give the Metro Munchers, Washtenaw Wingnuts, Camp Remote, Erie
Rockers, Chippewa Chirpers, and all the other teams some competition for
top species count!
The event is free and open to the public. I also hope to coordinate with
several experienced birders to ensure that the site is covered at least
during all daylight hours.
