As I write this at 4:34 pm on August 2nd Carl Freeman and Keith Westphal are watching an American Avocet wandering around the Elberta Marsh just off the north side of the bridge before entering Elberta from the east. Elberta is one mile south of Frankfort, Michigan. There are several small mud flats in Betsie Bay and the Avocet is working thoses back and forth. Also present are three Great Egrets, and a smattering of the more common shorebirds. A stilt sandpiper was there last night and may still be aorund.
