Carolyn Szaroletta and Bob Grefe of the Saginaw Valley Audubon Society led
a very successful auto tour to see short-eared owls at Shiawassee National
Wildlife Refuge on Sunday, November 26. Noteworthy sightings included:

Ross's goose - 1
American bittern - 1
bald eagle - 4
northern harrier - 5 (including 2 adult males)
sandhill crane - 45
short eared owl - 7

One owl afforded especially good views as it landed on the road and ate a
mouse.

Many thanks to Carolyn and Bob for working with the refuge to provide this
very popular birding opportunity.
