The Delta College birdwatching class took an auto tour and hike at
Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge Saturday (5/20). The class was treated
to several outstanding views including:

marsh
prothonotary warbler - long eye-level looks at 2 singing males less than 50
feet away; one male harassed by a black-capped chickadee as it tried to
inspect a tree cavity
great crested flycatcher - sunning itself on an open perch at eye level
within 50 feet
bald eagle - soaring low directly overhead
Caspian tern - diving into the water and catching a fish less than 100 feet
away

Other noteworthy species include:
dunlin
least sandpiper
osprey
pileated woodpecker
great horned owl
black-throated green warbler
ovenbird
