Despite a very windy day and pre-count cold weather and frozen lakes the Manistee CBC ended up with about an average count of 69 species.
No rarities were found but several good sightings included the following: A total count of 220 Tundra Swans and 855 Long-tailed Ducks, 3 Great Blue Herons, 5 Cooper's Hawks, 3 Red-shouldered Hawks and 6 Brown Creepers were above average..
Carl Freeman found a Snowy Owl and the even rarer (for Manistee Horned Larks). Other good birds included Hermit Thrush, Yellow-bellied Sapsucker, Red-headed Woodpecker, a count week Eastern Medowlark and finally 2 Evening Grosbeaks after a long hiatus.
