Belted Kingfisher/Pied-Billed Grebe/Erie Marsh Preserve

On a visit today to the Erie Marsh Preserve in Monroe County, I spotted a
BELTED KINGFISHER perched above some open water alongside Dean Road about
twenty feet from the club entrance. The Belted Kingfisher continued to
perch, hover, and plunge at this spot for the duration of my visit.

Toward the end of my visit, I scanned a larger body of open water a final
time. To my surprise, I spotted a PIED-BILLED GREBE about five feet in
front of me resting ever so still near the water bank. Perhaps a minute
later, the Pied-Billed Grebe slowly submerged below the water. What a
delight!
