kestrel vs gull

Was coolin' my wheels at the MLK/Holmes light in Lansing on the way home  
tonight and notice a flurry of activity overhead.  An American Kestrel was  in a 
dogfight with at least two of the gulls that hang out at the plazas  there.  
It looked like a fairly even match. although the kestrel nearly got  snagged by 
a wing tip on one pass.  For some reason, it always surprises me  how agile 
gulls are.   I suspect the falcon initiated the melee by  blitzing one of the 
gulls.  The kestrel was the one who flew eventually  off.
