The Saginaw Valley Audubon Society provided an owling trip for the public
at Shiawassee National Wildlife Refuge on 11/13. Despite extremely high
winds, participants saw 4 short-eared owls at close range.

Please be advised that these birds were found between sunset and sunrise
when the refuge is closed to public access. The refuge remains closed
during these periods except for events such as these field trips which are
coordinated with the refuge.

To increase birding opportunities for the public, the refuge is partnering
with organizations such as Friends of Shiawassee NWR, Shiawassee NWR
Volunteers, and Saginaw Valley Audubon Society to offer more guided auto
tours and walks. Please contact me if your Audubon chapter or birding club
is interested in assisting with this endeavor.
