Rainier Friends:

Membership Meeting Reminder

Hope to see you tomorrow, Wednesday Sept 14, 2004 at the Federal
Way Sr. Center (4016
S. 352nd St, Auburn 98001) for Rainier Audubon's September meeting,
the first
membership meeting of the year. The program is a slides show "Rachel
Carson's Silent Spring Revisited".

Doors open at 6:30, the meeting begins at 7:00pm. We want to visit
with all of our birding friends after not seeing them during the
summer, and hope to hear some vacation and birding stories from
everyone. We should have a great time, and the program will be
thought-provoking. Steve LePenske always provides beautiful slide
images.
Also, special awards are planned for the Birdathon winners. Our
Birdathon participants and sponsors provided $2800. to be used by RAS
and Washington Audubon for various programs.

More about the slide show, "Rachel Carson's Silent Spring Revisited."

Despite Rachel Carson's warning about human kind's destruction of the
natural world, we are still
polluting our planet at levels that exceed a healthy environment for
humans
and animals. The polar
bears of Svalbard are just one indication of the canary in the mine
shaft.

Rainier Audubon member Steve LePenske will discuss the global
environment
and mankind's continuing role within it. The presentation will focus
on a
variety of at risk species who's declining environment is a reflection
of an
environment that puts humans at risk.

Steve is a local photographer whose images have been exhibited at
several
shows and have won numerous awards. He is very committed to
environmental
issues. Please join Rainier Audubon and Steve for an evening of
thought
provoking discussion as we begin another season.

Refreshments will be provided after the program. Everyone is invited
to
attend.
