A WELSH farmer and his wife have established a reputation as an
"international rescue" service for animals in trouble.
Airlines lay on special flights for Jan and Graham Garen's worldwide
missions to rescue monkeys and other animals from zoos hit by money or political
problems around the globe.
TV presenter and animal lover Graham Norton is a patron of the pair's
worldwide rescue service.
And companies such as Emirates Airlines, BMIbaby, British Gas, Tesco,
Safeway, Somerfield and Brooke Bond PG Tips (famous for its chimp TV adverts) are
sponsors.
The couple, who run the Cefn yr Erw Primate Sanctuary at their former hill
farm in Caehopkin, near Abercraf in the Swansea Valley, also rescue animals
kept in inappropriate circumstances.
In March Emirates Airlines laid on a special flight so Willie the Baboon
could have a new life with Jan and Graham in Wales.
He had been used by a market trader in Bahrain as "entertainment" but when
he grew too large and started scaring off customers he was in danger of being
put down.
Worldwide courier specialists DHL also arranged for a monkey to flow by BA
to Cefn yr Erw from Qatar after a zoo closed down there.
