A/w local OKC weekend hunting news:

A bowfishing organization is having its world championship this year on
Okla.'s Lake Texoma. Historically, this tournament has taken place on
large reserviors in the South and as many as 100 two-man teams from
across the country and Canada are expected to participate. The entry
fee is $125 per team.

There is to be an inaugural junior bass fishing world championship being
held on Lake Wylie located on the border of North and South Carolina.
A national bass association has sponsored junior bass fishing clubs
for several years, but this is the first year to hold a junior world
championship.
This organization is trying to ensure its future by luring more youngsters
to tournament fishing. A spokesman for the organization states "Our overall
goal is to get youth involved in fishing, of course, and to help them
understand
the heritage of our sport."
He added "Our other goal is to put an insurance policy for us. Our sport is
aging. The anglers in our sport on the professional side are aging. So we
are doing what we can to put some new wind in the sails."
At the championship tournament, the entrants will be paired with a pro
competing in this year's classic tournament for a practice day. The pro
angler can help and offer advice during the practice round.
And in the next day, the junior anglers will be paired with a different pro.
During the competition, the pro angler may only drive the boat. The junior
angler must make all the decisions about where to fish and how to fish.
This one-day tournament will award $25,000 in scholarship money.
A spokesman for the Okla. Dept. of Wildlife Conservation hopes more
fishing clubs will sponsor junior bassmasters and act as mentors for young
anglers. The members of local bass clubs provide the boats.

                                                                  For the
Animals,

                                                                  Jana, OKC
