AR-News: (US MA) Yellow Labradors are the breed of choice

  According to a press release issued in January by the American  Kennel 
Club, the Labrador Retriever, for the 14th consecutive year, easily  outdistanced 
the others on its list of most popular purebred dogs in America,  according to 
its registration figures. 
Nearly three times as many Labs were registered in 2003 as any other breed,  
according to the release. 
Beturney  said the Lab's persistent popularity has given rise to unscrupulous 
breeders  whose poor breeding practices can lead to health problems with 
their dogs such  as hip dysplasia and eye ailments. 
Golden  retrievers were a distant second, on the AKC list, and Doucette said 
goldens  were also among the most popular dogs in Natick. 
The town,  however, isn't without its exotic bent, though it does seem to 
have a passion  for dogs that retrieve.
