IF whale watching appeals and you can cook and wash dishes a couple of
university researchers would appreciate your company on their research vessel.
There's another little catch, you'll also have to pay – somewhere between
$850 and $1250 – for the privilege of being aboard the vessel with the
romantically sounding name, Moon Dancer.
The offer has come from whale researchers at Lismore's Southern Cross
University, who spend August, September and October photographing, recording and
filming the whales in the Hervey Bay area of south-east Queensland as they head
back to Antarctica.
In reality it's not all washing dishes and cooking.
The volunteers help by collecting skin sloughed from whales, taking notes on
observations and recording other data, sampling water quality – as well as
the enjoyment and thrill of watching whales at play.

"Look deep into the eyes of any animal, and then for a moment, trade places,
their life becomes as precious as yours and you become as vulnerable as
them. Now smile if you believe all animals deserve our respect and our
protection, for in a way, they are us, and we are them." -Philip Ochoa Board Member,
