June 29 (Bloomberg) -- The U.S. Department of Agriculture reported its
second possible case of mad cow disease in less than a week as part of a
screening program that the government expanded following a confirmed
case in December.

Further tests on tissue samples will be conducted to determine whether
the animal had the disease, the department said in a statement. On
Friday, the department reported a similar inconclusive test for bovine
spongiform encephalopathy, or BSE, as part of a stepped-up testing
program begun this month.
