[When you consider that there are Canadians (like me and nearly everyone who
I know) who eat absolutely no beef per annum, and a great many who now eat
very little, the 14 kg average amount means that there must be people eating
two, three, four or more times that amount -- a staggering amount of red
meat per person per year, that suggests they are totally ignoring an
overwhelming amount of evidence against eating beef for health,
environmental and/or humanitarian reasons. BKM]

Beefeaters

It takes more than a little mad cow disease to stop Canadians from eating
beef. The BSE scare of 2003 had two effects: Canadians rallied around their
beef industry, and beef prices dropped. That turned out to be bad news for
pork producers, while chicken farmers held their ground.

Beef Consumption per capita

2002 13.5kg
2003 14.2kg

Pork Consumption per captia

2002 12.1kg
2003 10.9kg

Chicken Consumption per captia

2002 13.6kg
2003 13.6kg
