United Poultry Concerns Will Participate in Pew Meeting on Transgenic
Animals
National Press Club, 529 14th St, NW, Washington DC

On Wednesday June 30, from 12:00 to 2:00 pm, the Pew Initiative on Food and
Biotechnology will host a policy discussion on ethical and regulatory issues
raised by the introduction of genetically modified animals. The discussion
will look at ethical arguments for and against genetically modified animals
including animal welfare concerns.

United Poultry Concerns President Dr. Karen Davis will attend and speak out
at the meeting along with UPC Consultants and Internet Researchers Mary
Finelli, former editor of Farmed Animal Watch, and Pattrice Jones,
co-director of the Eastern Shore Sanctuary & Education Center
(www.bravebirds.org).
.
In September 2002, Pattrice Jones represented United Poultry Concerns at the
Pew/FDA symposiums on “food” animal biotechnology in Dallas, Texas, where
she was on hand to collect information and, most importantly, to speak up
for the animals, because genetic engineering and cloning of farmed animals
involve extreme and perverse cruelty to animals and because their only
purpose is higher profits for agribusiness and pharmaceutical corporations.
