SWAKARA pelts fetched good prices at last week's Agra auction held in
Copenhagen, Denmark.

Of the 25 086 Swakara pelts that were on offer, 100 per cent sale was
achieved as all the pelts were sold at the auction.
According to Swakara exporter, Agra, an average price of 145,84 Danish Kroner
(DKK) was achieved representing an increase of 13,50 per cent compared with
the DKK 128,68 attained in December last year.
The average price in local currency of N$155, 31 reflects an increase of
14,73 per cent compared with the N$135, 37 of the previous auction.
Swakara pelts on offer consisted of 22 511 black, 861 white, 84 brown and
1630 miscellaneous pelts.
The highest price was of N$383,36 for 28 D Light Drawn Selected Extra pelts
purchased by Copenhagen Fur Centre as pelt samples for their new designer
centre.
This was an increase compared to last year's highest price at N$368.20.
According to Agra, many buyers expressed concern about the few pelts that
were on offer, adding that the worldwide pelt industry is "very healthy and
Swakara producers must now show that they can indeed deliver a large number of
pelts and by so doing sharing in the fortune".
