The Western Australian Government denies it has effectively blackmailed the
RSPCA to ensure the agency does not prosecute cases involving the live export
sheep trade.
A story aired on the ABC's Four Corners program on Monday night suggested
there was a lack of will by the agency's WA branch to prosecute offenders in the
live sheep trade because it risked losing Government funding.
Agriculture Minister Kim Chance has told Parliament the suggestion it has
blackmailed the RSPCA is nonsense.
He said the Government was never given a chance to respond.
"I formed the view that the show was biased, it was superficial and it was
deliberately misleading in its content," he said.
"It did little to advance a cause that the Government is very keen on
advancing and that is the improvement of animal welfare conditions."

"As long as man continues to be the ruthless destroyer of lower beings, he
will never know health or peace. For as long as men massacre animals, they will
kill each other. Indeed, he who sows the seeds of murder and pain cannot reap
joy and love" -Pythagorus
