CANASERAGA — Nine years ago, Allan and Patty Nobles of Mill Street gave
Sookie, a 2-year-old greyhound from a dog track in Florida, a home.

Richard Stephens, village dog control officer, described the Nobles as
“good dog people” who have helped him out by either finding homes for
stray dogs or taking in the dogs themselves. The Nobles have cared for
dogs, like Sookie, that would normally be put down, he said.

“They take in old dogs and nurse them along,” Mr. Stephens said. “That
was an old, old dog that had a hard life until they got a hold of it.”

The Nobles no longer have Sookie, age 11. An investigator with the SPCA
Serving Allegany County took the dog while in the side yard of the
Nobles’ home and bed and breakfast, the Mill Creek Inn, on May 19.
