Thank you for any effort you make to support Jeremy Beckham's visit to
the New England Primate Center in Southborough, Mass. As you know, he
has dedicated his summer to making one-week visits to all of the
national primate research centers to educate the public about the
estimated 100,000 non-human primates locked behind lab doors and promote
next summer's 2005 Primate Freedom Tour.
New Location for Vigil
Jeremy has decided to change the location of his final day in the Boston
area and corresponding candlelight vigil on the evening of Wednesday,
June 23rd. Instead of being at the New England Primate Center in
Southborough, (where he will be every day until Wednesday) he will be in
Cambridge at the gates of Harvard Square on his last day. This decision
was made for higher visibility and easier access for activists and media
outlets.
Please join him for a candlelight vigil that last night:
When: Wednesday June 23rd from 7:30-9:30 PM (Jeremy may stay until as
late as midnight and welcomes any late night company as well).
Where: Meet at the gates of Harvard Square, Cambridge (near Au Bon Pain)
For more local details, please contact Helen and Steve at 978-355-6260
or rayshick at fiam.net
Stop in and visit Jeremy
Jeremy also welcomes any visitors/supporters any day prior to Wednesday
where he is tabling outside the New England National Primate Research
Center in Southborough from 6 a.m.-8 p.m. daily. Jeremy's focus on
ending vivisection seems to supercede any focus on personal nutrition,
so he would probably appreciate a reminder to eat with any donation of
vegan fare. For directions and instructions to park at the primate
center (parking is an issue), please contact Helen and Steve (listed
above).
Jane Goodall boosts IDA's campaign
Dr. Jane Goodall, world-renowned primatologist states, "Researchers find
it very necessary to keep their blinkers on. They don't want to admit
that the animals they are working with have feelings and personalities."
Throughout his travels, Jeremy will be promoting a public service
announcement featuring Goodall and monkeys locked away at the Oregon
National Primate Research Center that was filmed by IDA's Matt Rossell,
who worked in the lab for two years. Goodall comments in the 30-second
spot, "That people can go to work and allow such barbaric conditions to
continue, is a very black mark against humanity." This PSA will air in
all eight cities where Jeremy is stopping and is currently airing in the
greater Boston area on Animal Planet as a paid commercial sponsored by
In Defense of Animals.
