Suspected Spoiled Seeds Kill 250 Pigeons

ATHENS (Reuters) - A professed bird-lover was under arrest on Monday after 
250 pigeons died in Athens' main square after being fed suspected spoiled 
seeds, police said.



Police arrested the woman at Syntagma Square opposite Greece's parliament 
after pigeons she was spotted feeding started to flutter helplessly and die 
on Sunday.


The woman told police she loved pigeons and had fed them maize and sesame 
seeds she found at her uncle's home who died a month ago. The woman was not 
aware how long the seeds had been stored before her uncle's death.


Police were considering whether to charge the woman with animal killing, a 
crime that can mean several months imprisonment.
