Attacker who murdered Lake Park woman also beat dogs

Whoever bludgeoned Cathy Lamb to death in her Lake Park duplex Tuesday also
beat her dogs -- a pit bull, a German shepherd and a shepherd-wolf mix.

Nippier, Dakota and Bandit survived.

They were in the custody of Animal Care & Control on Thursday, healing
from their wounds, officials said.

Nippier's skull was fractured, and the pit bull received multiple head
lacerations. Dakota, the German shepherd, had to have five head wounds stitched. And
Bandit suffered two puncture wounds to the right side of the face.

"You normally would not go near these dogs, and that's important to the
case," Sheriff's spokesman Paul Miller said.

Officials said there was no sign of forced entry to the duplex in the 500
block of Silver Beach Road, but they would not discuss possible motives or
suspects.

Detectives were still searching the home for evidence Thursday and trying to
figure out what happened between the time Lamb, 30, a Walgreens corporate
employee, got off work Tuesday afternoon and when her husband found her dead in
the living room about 7 p.m.

Investigators said whatever weapon was used to bludgeon Lamb was probably
used to beat her dogs, too.

"I can't say that they were protecting -- I don't know that -- but they were
definitely beaten with her," Capt. Kenneth Deischer said.

Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Kim Bradley, 561-688-4055,
or Crime Stoppers, 800-458-8477.
