Queensland is stepping up its campaign to eradicate feral animals from the
state's national parks.
Environment Minister John Mickel said one of main targets, feral cats, were
vicious hunters that inflicted widespread damage on native wildlife.
"A recent campaign at Astrebla Downs National Park in far western Queensland
revealed the toll these pests are taking on our wildlife," he said.
"In one case, an autopsy on a five kilogram feral cat which was shot in the
park last month revealed that its stomach contained the remains of bilbies and
two whole fat-tailed dunnarts.
"People need to understand that we are not talking about the family moggie -
we're dealing with vicious hunters which are killing our wildlife."
