KILL BILL - The American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act
It appears that Rep. Bob Goodlatte (R-6-VA), Chairman of the U.S. House Committee on Agriculture, is still determined to kill H.R. 857 (the American Horse Slaughter Prevention Act) by not calling it for a vote. He has also sent out a dear colleague letter asking those who have co-sponsored this bill to withdraw their support, and encouraging the others not to back it. Additionally, the meat industry is lobbying very hard against it.
We are re-releasing our Special Report on Rep. Goodlatte in order to illustrate how serious this is, and who we are up against. A link to that page on our website is at the end of this communication.
TIME IS RUNNING OUT - An Urgent Call to Action
Time is running out on this bill, and we must act now or we will lose this opportunity to end horse slaughter and close down the slaughterhouses in Texas and now in Illinois.
Rep. Goodlatte is the key, so phone calls and faxed letters are immediately required, although mailed letters are also acceptable. Whatever you elect to do, please do so as quickly as time allows.
Talking Points
1. Demand that Rep. Goodlatte release H.R. 857 for a vote.
2. The bill has been co-sponsored by a majority of the House (224).
3. Of the Americans who have spoken out on this issue, a vast majority are opposed to horse slaughter and support this bill.
4. Remind him that it his duty to serve the American public who are opposed to horse slaughter, and not the special interest groups who support it.
Note: If calling, make a note of when you called and who you spoke with, particularly if it is Brent Gattis. Also, try to leave your name and contact information with whomever you speak with.
