President steers Beef Council to new heights
Dianne Byrne Johnston set to retire

In more than two decades as executive director of the Oregon Beef Council, 
Dianne Byrne Johnston has put the sizzle back into the state's cattle 
industry.


Demand and prices are at 10-year peaks in the cyclical beef market, levels 
that some say are the best experienced by ranchers in the past century. The 
state is home to 1.4 million head of cattle -- enough for each of the 
state's estimated 1.4 million households to have its own bovine.
