Some animal rights advocates are threatening to boycott Effem Foods unless
the company president delivers a formal apology for poisoning pets with
contaminated products within two weeks.
Shen Rong-cheng, secretary-general of Care Animals and Protecting the Earth
Organization (CAPEO), also vowed to stage a protest outside the Taiwan office
of Effem Foods, the maker of Pedigree dog food and Whiskas cat food.
Shen said some pet owners, upset at the company's handling of compensation
claims, have already started to boycott Pedigree and Whiskas products.
"It's about the attitude. Some pet owners got the impression that the company
isn't sincere in resolving the problem and just wants to pay some money to
get it over with," she said.
Shen rejected the case-by-case standards adopted by the company in deciding
the amount of compensation and demanded a group negotiation with the presence
of animal rights advocates in order to reach "reasonable settlements."

Nothing more strongly arouses our disgust than cannibalism, yet we make the
same impression on vegetarians, for we feed on babies, though not our own. -
